eSeva centres to accept passport applications

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Life will become a lot simpler for citizens seeking to submit passport applications as they can now do so at any of the designated 40 eSeva centres in the twin cities and Ranga Reddy district.

Instead of standing in long queues at the Passport Office for submitting the application, people can fill the form online at passport site https://passport.gov.in, print out the application and submit at any of the e-Seva centres along with requisite fee on any day within one month from the date of entering the data online.

The passport accepting eSeva centres, which are spread over the city, will forward the application to the Regional Passport Office. Until now, a passport applicant was required to be physically present at any of the 17 eSeva centres for filling the details and posting the data online to passport office server.

More services

Information Technology Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy launched this and four more new services- ration card correction service, document collection service for Airtel customers, PAN card application service and payment of utility bills through mobile phone - at his chambers here on Monday.

He said the government was keen to offer more services through eSeva centres for the convenience of common man and save him the time and trouble of travelling all the way to government offices. Started in 2001, eSeva is now offering 160 services with 400 lakh transactions a year.

Similarly, eSeva would accept documents related to proof of identity, address from Airtel customers and the company would collect them from the centre. Airtel is the first operator which has sought e-Seva centre's service for its customers.

Besides, all mobile phones with GPRS facility could be used to pay bills through e-seva platform. The facility is presently extended to citizens with credit or debit card issued by any bank.
