Staff Reporter

They will hold Kisan melas from October 6 to 15

ONGOLE: Prakasam district Collector Kantilal Dande on Tuesday urged bankers to step up lending to priority sector.

With a view to covering all non-loanee farmers and tenant farmers, an action plan was evolved at the second District Consultative committee meeting here to organise “Kisan melas” from October 6 to 15.

The Collector impressed upon the public sector banks to cover all needy farmers and members of other weaker sections in achievement of targets under the annual credit plan and other government-sponsored schemes.

Each rural and semi-urban branch has to finance 100 new farmers per branch.

The banks have been set a target of financing at least 10,000 non-loanee farmers, 300 Rithu Mitra Groups and 1000 Joint Liability Cards with an outlay of Rs 47.50 crore.

He also wanted the bankers particularly concentrate on Small and Medium enterprises, and Self Help Groups, among other sections.

Mr A Sreeram Reddy, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, the lead bank in the district said only 30.68 per cent of the disbursal target of rs 2503.04 crore for priority sector lending under annual credit plan had been achieved.

Credit offtake would improve during the rabi season starting in October.
