‘Instruct them to behave well with the public'

Protesters say that conductors try to assault people who question them for using abusive language

Better bus services between Bommanhalli, Neginhal, Yambatnal and Bijapur demanded

Bijapur: The students from Bommanhalli, Neginhal and Yambatnal along with the members of Akhil Bharat Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a dharna in front of the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) depot here on Tuesday. They staged the protest against bus conductors who, they said, use abusive language on the buses that connect their places to Bijapur.

The agitators took out a procession from Gandhi Chowk to the NEKRTC bus depot. There, they met the NEKRTC Divisional Controller and urged him to take action against the conductors of buses plying between Bommanhalli, Neginhal, Yambatnal and Bijapur. Since the three villages lack proper bus facilities, the residents of the villages are forced to depend only on two buses. Naturally they are overcrowded and the bus conductors lose their patience while discharging their duties. In the process, they express their anger by using abusive language while interacting with the student commuters. According to the agitators, there have been instances when the conductors have tried to assault students who have questioned the conductors using abusive language.

The agitators demanded that the NEKRTC should take necessary steps to improve bus services to these villages and issue proper information to bus conductors about the validity of bus passes and ask them to behave well the general public.

A memorandum was submitted to the Divisional Controller of NEKRTC. He assured the students that bus services to Bommanhalli, Neginhal and Yambatnal would be improved.
