CHENNAI: The ninth edition of Meena Bazaar exhibition, which got off to a start here on Tuesday, features an impressive line-up of designer saris, bags and jewellery.

Visitors were spoilt for choices at the two-day fair being held at Hotel Accord Metropolitan. Actor Radhika Sarathkumar inaugurated the exhibition.

“Last year, we had 7,000 visitors and we expect much more this year,” said Meena Bazaar chairperson Sonali Dugar. Proceeds from the event would go towards Cloth Bank, a key project of Rajasthan Cosmo Club, which is organising the event.

The exhibition has an ensemble of designers from Amristar, Lucknow, Mathura, Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Daman, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata, apart from many from Chennai.

While many women queued up before stalls displaying designer salwar sets and saris, others hunted for ethnic upholsteries sourced from Lucknow.

Lot of choices

College-goers have a lot to choose from – be it the sparkly accessories from Bangkok or antique-looking jewelleries from Ambur. Decorative plates made of silver and zinc, stone-embellished plates and decorative bowls, dried flowers, stylish jute bags and hand-crafted gift bags are part of the display.

On the food front, there are stalls selling homemade chocolates and pastries. The stalls offering free makeovers, nail art, mehndi and foot reflexology are an added attraction.

“There are 96 stalls and designer brands are sourced from 14 cities. There are also stalls from Hong Kong and Bangkok displaying products,” said Meena Bazaar co-chairperson Hemlatha Bhansali.
