Rain throws life out of gear
Special Correspondent
Hyderabad: One of hour rain and four hours of chaos. That's the hitec city for you. The civic infrastructure, which is being developed on international standards, collapsed like ninepins as the sky opened up on Tuesday. In the process it also exposed the administration's preparedness to rise to the occasion.
The downpour claimed a life. A young woman died when the compound wall of a school fell on her house at Singadikunta Basti on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. Her five-month baby escaped with injures. The heavy rain threw life out of gear causing traffic gridlocks everywhere.
Not just the low lying areas, even the main thoroughfares were under a sheet of water. Chaos reigned supreme almost everywhere but the policemen who go into overdrive chasing traffic violators were conspicuous by absence. Walkie-talkie in hand they stood dazed at some intersections like Khairatabad and Secretariat clueless how to untangle the log jam.
