State to constitute biodiversity panels
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The State government will constitute biodiversity protection committees at village, mandal and district levels, Forest Minister P. Ramachandra Reddy said here on Tuesday, after reviewing biodiversity protection with officials.
According to an official release, the seven member committee would include a local ‘Vana Samrakshana Samiti' member, a nature lover and representatives of farmers and fishermen.
The meeting decided to seek the Finance Department's permission to sanction 39 posts of various categories to oversee the proposed biodiversity board.
Call centre
The meeting also decided to set up a call centre (number 103 or 105) for providing information to the department officials on forest fires, illegal transportation of wood and hunting of animals. It would be finalised after discussions with BSNL officials.
The Minister suggested the officials to hold talks with cold drink manufacturers to expedite the preparation of ‘herbal cola' using abundantly available ‘sugandha' roots in forests.
