Debashis stuns Konguvel

BHIWANI: Debashis Das stunned former National champion P. Konguvel to be part of the six-player leaders' pack after eight rounds of the National challengers chess championship here on Tuesday.

After the top board battle between Vikramaditya Kamble and M.R. Venkatesh ended in a draw in 38 moves, Das scored a 57-move victory with black pieces over Konguvel.

T. Murali Krishnan (6).

M.R. Lalith Babu (6) bt Padmini Rout (5); G.A. Stany (5) lost to M. S. Thejkumar (6); Swapnil Dhopade (5.5) drew with Soumya Swaminathan (5.5); Prathamesh Mokal (6) bt Mehar Chinna Reddy (5).
