BSP blames State for drug deaths

Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Kodagu unit president H.U. Rafeeq has blamed the State Government for the death of three persons in Kodagu allegedly due to drug reaction.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that efforts were being made to hold the doctors and paramedical staff responsible for the lapses at the Sunticoppa primary health centre and the Kushalnagar hospital. The Government should be held responsible for the lapses at the two places where the victims had been treated, he added.

Moidu and Susheela, who had been administered paracetamol injections at the Sunticoppa primary health centre, died on Saturday after they were shifted to the district hospital here in a critical condition. Another woman had died at the Kushalnagar hospital on the same day. It was not clear whether she had died due to drug reaction.

Mr. Rafeeq said doctors should be given a prominent role in deciding the amount and quality of medicines needed to be purchased. The Government should also ensure enough doctors and specialists were posted at the government hospitals in Kodagu.

BSP councillor Chitra Devaraj and party district unit treasurer Satish were present.
