Rainwater entered many houses in low-lying areas and damaged standing crops Hundreds of people in Malebennur took shelter at the Basaveshwara Kalyana Mantapa Davagere: Rain continued to play havoc in Davangere district on Friday. There was heavy rainfall in Harihar city on Thursday night. A 130-year-old banyan tree, which was behind the Harihareshwara temple, fell on the two houses destroying them completely and injuring five persons, which included three children. Harihar MLA B.P. Harish and Tahsildar Nagabhushan rushed to the spot. Mr. Harish instructed the Tahsildar to get old trees cut to avoid casualties. He also directed the Tahsildar to distribute compensation to the owners of the two houses which were destroyed in the rain. Hundreds of people in Malebennur had thronged at the Basaveshwara Kalyana Mantapa after the water gushed into their houses. They tried their best to pacify the agitated protesters. As many as 25 houses in Honnali were damaged owing to heavy rainfall on Thursday night and scores of cattle head went missing.
