PUDUKOTTAI: With a view to checking any possible intrusion via sea during the course of the millennium celebrations of the Big Temple in Thanjavur, the Coastal Security Group (CSG) of Pattukottai zone has stepped up security measures at all the coastal villages in the district. The surveillance which commenced on Monday will continue up to September 28 with a round-the-clock security on the sea, at the landing points besides eight check posts. Two mobile parties have also been keeping a vigil at all the 32 coastal villages , A..Magesh, inspector of police, Coastal Security Group, told The Hindu here on Thursday. In all, one inspector of police, eleven sub-inspectors and 90 police constables have been drafted for duty for checking entry by extremists or terrorists. The round-the-clock vigil on the waters was being kept on shift basis. In each shift, spread over 12 hours, two mechanised boats and one 12 tonne category fast interceptor boat are being utilised. The monitoring is done by a team of personnel led by one sub-inspector on board a boat. A total of 25 police constables have been deployed at eight check-posts to prevent any possible escape by extremists by land. The check posts are located at Kattumavadi, Krishnajipattinam, Semakottai, Veechoor, Kottaipattinam, Embakottai, Semakottai and Arasangarai.
