It's boom time for foundry industry

Coimbatore: The Indian foundry industry will soon reach the second position in global market, said C.R. Swaminathan, chairman of Fifth National Foundry Conclave and N. Krishna Samaraj, co-chairman of the conclave said.

The Fifth National Foundry Conclave will be held in Coimbatore on November 26. They said that the Indian foundry industry was growing by 10 per cent to 15 per cent annually and is expected to surpass Russia soon. The industry had been adapting to new technologies in expansion and modernisation increasing their capacity. Raw materials at present were not a problem for the industry and had power supply remained better, the output from these foundries would have been up by 30 per cent.

The foundry industry was planning to source gas as fuel by 2010 when the gas pipeline from Kochi to Karur becomes functional. The industry was looking forward to set up a training centre. Mr. Swaminathan said that there had been good demand for diploma, graduate and post-graduate courses in metallurgy.
