Four share lead

BHIWANI (HARYANA): Some stunning results and expected outcomes combined to leave four leaders at 8.5 points after 11 rounds of the National challengers' chess championship here on Friday.

When the dust settled, M.R. Venkatesh, former champion Suvrajit Saha, Shyam Sundar and Vikramaditya Kamble emerged at the top of the heap. Two more rounds remain.

Vishnu Prasanna, one of the two overnight leaders, suffered a 27-move loss to Saha.

Vikramaditya Kamble, meanwhile, needed the same number of moves to shock top seeded youngster M.R. Lalith Babu.

Venkatesh, the other overnight leader, drew in just 21 moves with M. S. Thejkumar before Shyam Sundar battled to a 54-move triumph over Debashis Das.

The results (11th round): Vishnu Prasanna (8) lost to Suvrajit Saha (8.5); M.S. Thejkumar (8) drew with M.R. Venkatesh (8.5); Debashis Das (7.5) lost to Shyam Sundar (8.5); Rahul Sangma (8) drew with Navin Kanna (8); M.R. Lalith Babu (7) lost to Vikramaditya Kamble (8.5); Swapnil Dhopade (7.5) drew with V.A.V. Rajesh (7.5); Shyam Nikhil (7.5) drew with P. Konguvel (7.5); Santu Mondal (7.5) drew with Prathamesh Mokal (7.5); P. Karthikeyan (7) lost to J. Ramakrishna (8).

P. Praveen Prasad (7.5) drew with Saptarshi Roy (7.5); Dinesh Kumar Sharma (7.5) drew with Shashikant Kutwal (7.5); Arun Karthik (6.5) lost to K. Ratnakaran (7.5); B.T.
