Comprehensive measures to tackle leptospirosis

Kalpetta: A special meeting of the Health Department, chaired by District Collector T. Bhaskaran, has decided to implement comprehensive measures to tackle leptospirosis (rat fever) in the district.

The meeting decided to organise awareness programmes in rural areas in association with Janamaithri police.

Safety instruments

The district administration would direct the local self- administrative bodies to provide necessary safety instruments to the workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Biogas plants

As part of tackling the spread of rat fever disease, as many as 67 biogas plants would be set up at different places in the district in an initiative to drive out rats.

The meeting also decided to intensify sanitation work to curb the diseases. Neetha Vijayan, District Medical Officer; K.G. Mohanachandran Nair, District Labour Officer and Vilasnath, Social Welfare Officer attended the meeting.
