CPI(M) to contest 10 seats in Kasaragod

Staff Reporter

Kasaragod: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has completed the seat allocation process for the district panchayat elections scheduled on October 23.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will contest 10 seats in the 16-member panchayat.

The Communist Party of India is likely to contest three seats and the Revolutionary Socialist Party, the Janata Dal (Secular) and the P.C. Thomas-led Kerala Congress faction will contest one seat each, LDF district convener P. Raghavan told a press conference here on Saturday.

The CPI(M) would field candidates at Pallikkare, Karinthalam, Bedakam, Madikkai, Delampadi, Pilicode, Vorkadi, Cheruvathur and Puthige, the CPI at Panathady and Manjeswaram, the JD(S) at Kumbala and the Kerala Congress (Thomas) at Chittarikkal, Mr. Raghavan said.

The RSP will get one of the three divisions of Uduma, Hengala and Edaneer and the remaining two would be shared by the CPI(M) and CPI. The final decision would be announced shortly after assessing the winning chances of the respective parties, he said.

Exuding confidence of wresting back the panchayat, he claimed that the LDF had showcased a clean administration during its four-and-a-half-year tenure till the UDF wrested the panchayat after two LDF constituents switched sides. The LDF lost the presidentship of the panchayat two months ago.

CPI(M) district secretary K.P. Sathish Chandran, at another press conference, said the party's seat allocation for block panchayats would be finalised by October 2 and for grama panchayats by October 1.
