Delegation says they have been working for over 40 years “Anti-worker attitude of NLC administration needs to be corrected” NEW DELHI: A delegation of representatives of various unions of contract employees of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has urged Union Minister of State for Coal Shriprakash Jaiswal to regularise them, pointing out they have been working for over 40 years and the Supreme Court has given a verdict in their favour. The delegation, led by Cuddalore Congress MP K.S. Alagiri, told Mr. Jaiswal that the 13,000 contract workers were not getting justice and their plea had been “brushed aside by the recalcitrant NLC administration.” Their earnings were meagre. The Supreme Court had, while upholding a Madras High Court verdict, asked the management to prepare a seniority list of the workers and confer permanent status on them. The delegation alleged that the NLC administration seemed determined not to implement the law of the land. “This anti-worker attitude of the government-owned NLC administration needs to be corrected.” Later, Mr. Alagiri said that the Minister had promised to look into the issue and take a decision at the earliest.
