TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah has strongly defended the State Government constructing a minor irrigation project across the Palar river at Ganeshpuram near Kuppam on the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border, 150 kms from here. Lakshmaiah who along with his cabinet colleague representing the Ministry of Forests and Environment P. Ramachandra Reddy visited the Palar project site on Thursday told mediapersons that their visit was for an on-field study of the project site and to get the required first hand information so that it could file an effective counter in the Supreme Court against the petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government seeking directions to the AP government to stop the construction of the dam across Palar river. He told reporters at Kuppamthat of the 58 TMC ft of water available in Palar, AP government through its dam at Ganesh Puram proposed to utilize only 8 TMC ft.
