RAJAHMUNDRY: M.Appayya, Chairman of the Employers' Federation of Southern India (EFSI), has called upon the Union Government to rationalise labour laws which are more stringent towards employers. Mr. Appayya, who is also Chairman of the MPR Refractories Ltd, Hyderabad, said EFSI was one of the recognised bodies to represent the matters connected with the industry and employee-related issues to the Government authorities and about 200 industrial employers are its members. He said there was need for a debate on emerging trends in the industry and labour laws, he added. Mr. R. Raghavan, senior general manager, Operations, Projects, NFCL, Kakinada said greatest challenge of the industry was the retention of employees. The present day challenges relate not only to human beings and their behaviour but also with other agencies. The employers and human resource departments are required to initiate the processes to deal with these challenges and guide the managements appropriately. He said “there are new trends which are emerging such as Self Managing Teams (SMT), Service Level Agreements (SLA), 360 degree feedback, Balance Score Card etc. and we are supposed to be acquainted with these new trends and use them for the development of employees and organisation as a whole.” Mr. Raghavan said it was HR men job to guide managements and ensure that all requirements are met statutorily. Mr. Kanna Rao, advisor, AP Paper Mills, also spoke on this occasion.
