Ashok urges party workers to fight State's ‘anti-people' policies

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: The woes of people during the last six years of Congress rule multiplied due to its corrupt and lopsided policies, P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, MLA and TDP Polit Bureau member, said on Saturday.

Addressing leaders and cadres of the party at the constituency-level meeting here, Mr. Ashok said though political parties were answerable to people, it was not seen under the present rule and were attacking those question them.

Though late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi amended the Constitution to hold elections to civic bodies in time, the government was not in preparedness to conduct them but it efficiently promoted corruption and sale of liquor, particularly in Vizianagaram where the sale of liquor touched Rs.10crores per day.

Saying that officials too were acting as stooges of Ministers, Mr. Ahok called upon cadres to fight anti-people policies right from grass-root level in a democratic manner. As a first step, he asked them to educate people by recalling corrupt practices of Congress leaders and irregularities done in welfare schemes. Signature campaign would be launched on the six-year corrupt rule of the ruling party and the problems people had been facing.

The party would conduct ‘palle palle ku TDP' from October 10 up to the month-end besides protests against the liquor policy on October 2.

Party district president Kolla Lalitha Kumari said the party must be strengthened by winning majority panchayats and municipalities in the impending elections.

Party town committee president P. Ramakrishna, Municipal floor leader V.S. Prasad and others spoke at the meeting.
