Bhimili: will Rosaiah promise development of tourism?

Chief Minster to launch several works related to the oldest municipality today

BHEEMUNIPATNAM: This small sleepy fisherman town has all ingredients of a world-class tourist spot, but what is lacking is determination from the Government to promote this as one of the biggest tourism spots in the State.

Chief Minster Konijeti Rosaiah will launch several works related to the oldest municipality of Andhra Pradesh during his visit on Sunday to formally participate in the celebrations to mark completion of 150 years as a municipality. People here look forward to a concrete assurance from the Chief Minister on Sunday evening on developing tourism infrastructure for attracting visitors from within and outside the country so that it could generate some revenue.

Pristine golden beach, confluence point of river Gosthani with Bay of Bengal, ruins of Dutch Palace, Flag Staff and Flag Staff Cemetery on the beach front, Buddhist sthupa/viharas on Pavuralakonda, Thotlakonda and Bavikonda, and the Dutch Cemetery at Kummaripalem can become a day-long tourist package if operated from Visakhapatnam along the 30-k.m. Beach Road. An old sea port administrative building also exists along with a light house from where indigo and jute was exported in the 17 {+t} {+h} Century.

Some strengthening works need to be taken up on Beach Road for making the journey of vehicles smoother and even the Chief Minister's convoy will avoid journey by the shortest route for this reason and instead take a circuitous route via National Highway No.5.

A ‘Dutch village' is also proposed to be constructed at Neredavalasa Colony to depict the architecture of the Dutch who inhabited this town from 1624 till before Independence. The Bhimili Municipality, which is generally starved of funds due to lack of revenue can hope to get some share from the tourism activities.

After arriving at Visakhapatnam airport at 12.15 p.m. on Sunday, the Chief Minister will take rest till 3.15 p.m. and attend two programmes in the city to lay foundation for Senior Citizens' Centre near YMCA and watch a presentation on development of King George Hospital and Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences.

The programme here begins at 4.40 p.m. and concludes at 6.15 p.m. from where the Chief Minister will leave for Visakhapatnam airport.
