Rain damage put at Rs. 31.51 crore

10 persons lost their lives since April 1

Government has released Rs. 1 crore for relief activities


Udupi: V.S. Acharya, Minister for Higher Education, said on Saturday that the damage due to rain in Udupi district from June 1 to September 25 had been estimated at Rs. 31.51 crore.

Addressing presspersons here, Dr. Acharya said that 10 persons had lost their lives in rain-related incidents since April 1.

The Government had released Rs. 1 crore so far for relief activities in the district. It would be releasing Rs. 30 lakh each for repair of the national highway, roads belonging to Public Works Department and the zilla panchayat. The repair work would begin within a week or as soon as the monsoon rain stopped, he said.

Four persons injured on September 23 by lightning in Karkala taluk had been admitted to hospital and all of them were out of danger, he said.
