New project for TB control launched

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: TB Alert India, an NGO working to improve implementation of the government's Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP), on Friday launched ‘Axshya India Project' in the State. The project, covering seven districts including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Medak, Prakasam, Chittoor and Khammam, aims to strengthen RNTCP by augmenting enrolments.

The project, being funded by TB Alert UK, will aim to hasten RNTCP registrations by at least 40 per cent, train health staff on interpersonal and soft skills, and organise community meetings.

“Tribal patients are not able to take TB drugs due to challenges in accessibility. We will supply them the drugs, collect their sputum for regular check-ups and retrace defaulters and start enrolling them again,” said Tilak S Chouhan, secretary, TB Alert India during the inaugural session.

The State-level inaugural meeting of the ‘Axshya India Project' was attended by Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasad Rao, Minister for Tribal Welfare, P. Balraju, Joint Director and State TB Officer Dr. M.S. Srinivas Rao.
