KADAPA: Leaders of several Rythu sanghams on Sunday called for demonstrations and protests all over the State on Monday deploring the lathicharge and arrest of opposition party leaders and functionaries when they peacefully protested demanding stern action against Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranath Reddy for irregularities in his mixed fertilizer factory here. A.P. Rythu Sangham president K. Ramakrishna (CPI), State leaders of CPI(M) affiliated Rythu Sangham Samineni Rama Rao and P. Ramesh, Telugu Rythu State secretary N. Venkateswara Rao, AITUC State vice-president G. Obulesu and Proddatur MLA M. Linga Reddy alleged that the government was committing mistakes and repeating them. They accused the government of withdrawing a case on Kadapa Mayor. The State government placed an indent for supply of 13.75 lakh tonnes of fertilizer from the Centre, although it was inadequate, the leaders said. Referring to Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy's statement that fertilizer shortage problem existed only in 121 of the 22,000 distribution centres in the State, they alleged that the government was nonchalant at sale of fertilizer at Rs. 30 to Rs. 200 higher than the prescribed rate.
