Emphasis on prompt payment of taxes

MADURAI: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India Madurai Chapter organised a two-day workshop on ‘Service Tax and Goods and Services Tax and Merger, Acquisition and Takeover' here in Madurai on Saturday and Sunday.

A.S. Meenalochani, Joint Commissioner, Customs Central Excise and Service Tax, Madurai was the chief guest.

Delivering the keynote address, she requested the public to pay taxes promptly as it helps largely in the development of the nation.

Ms.Meenalochani said that Madurai office has seen a three per cent increase in its income generation when compared to last year and there has been a substantial increase in the subscribers for online payment. She also shared some of her personal experiences highlighting her efforts to become a civil services officer.

The sessions were handled by experts like D. Rajendra Kumar, Chartered Accountant, Council Member ICAI, New Delhi, A. Muthiah, Superintendent, Central Excise, Madurai, V. Mahesh, Managing Partner, Mahesh Associates, Chennai and K.V. Omprakash, Corporate Lawyer and Director, Conscientia.

D. Sivasubramanian delivered the welcome address and company secretaries, chartered accountants company executives and students participated in good numbers.
