Janata Dal (S) seeks floor price for tea leaves

Udhagamandalam: The General Council of the State Janata Dal (S) which met here on Monday resolved to urge the Central Government to fix a floor price of Rs. 20 for a kg. of raw tea leaves produced by the small growers.

Pointing out that of late the leaves were not fetching remunerative prices, the meeting wanted the Central and state governments to implement a subsidy scheme. All farm inputs should be provided at 50 percent subsidy.

The loans extended by the central and state governments to the Industrial Cooperative (INDCO) tea factories here should be waived.

It will enable them to offer reasonable prices for the produce of the small tea growers.

Action should be taken to check adulteration in farm inputs.

Efforts should be made to tackle the wild animal menace in agricultural lands.

All the drinking water sources should be de-silted. Bus services should be streamlined.

A lasting solution should be found to the Jenmam land problem in Gudalur.

Pattas should be granted to the poor people without delay.

The ban on night traffic on Kakkanullah-Bandipur road should be lifted.
