SRIKAKULAM: Three municipalities - Srikakulam, Amudalavalasa and Itchapuram will come under special officers' rule from Thursday as the term for the existing local bodies came to an end on Wednesday. Rajam has been put on special officer's rule for the last five years with legal tangle over the elections. Tenure of the Palasa municipality will continue for two more years with the delay in elections.

Joint Collector E.Sridhar is expected to be the special officer for Srikakulam municipality. Tekkali Revenue Divisional Officer is likely to be the special officer for Itchapuram and Srikakulam RDO may take the charge as special officer for Amudalavalasa. Sources in the Collectorate said the orders would be issued on Thursday by the government and the designated special officers will take care of the administration in the three local bodies.

Srikakulam chairperson M.V. Padmavati hoped that the Congress would come back to power whenever the elections were conducted in the municipality. “Continuous water supply is our major achievement in the last five year. We have also constructed new market, function hall, community halls and new roads. Many problems were resolved during our tenure and municipality has surplus funds with our constant efforts to improve financial resources for the civic body,” she added.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association felicitated Mrs. Padmavati as she had fulfilled her promises as municipal chairperson. She assured that the Congress will continue to concentrate on people's problems and try to resolve them as early as possible. Itchapuram municipal chairperson Labhala Swarnamani and Amudalavalasa chairman Boddepalli Ramesh also hoped that the Congress party would come back to power in the respective municipalities.
