Channappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur district, said that elaborate arrangements had been made to prevent any untoward incident in the aftermath of the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, after presiding over a meeting of leaders of various political parties, organisations and religions, Dr. Gowda said leaders of Hindu and Muslim communities had been asked to accompany him and the Superintendent of Police after 3 p.m. on Thursday. Appealing to the people to remain calm, he said that leaders of the two communities would accompany the tahsildar at the taluk centres. He said video cameras would be installed in sensitive places and the sale of firecrackers had been banned. Vikaas Kumar, Superintendent of Police, said 100 officers, 617 police personnel and 400 Home Guards had been deputed for security duty. He said seven platoons of the district armed reserve had already been deployed and five platoons of KSRP had been requisitioned. Stating that all police officers would be available round the clock, he said all police vehicles and 30 other vehicles provided by the Deputy Commissioner would be used for continuous patrolling. He said a list of anti-social elements had been prepared and preventive arrests would be made, if necessary. He said that though prohibitory orders under Section 144 would be in force throughout the district, it would be enforced only in sensitive areas.
