Collectors warns traders against selling expired drugs

PUDUKOTTAI: Drugs stocked at medical shops should contain all relevant details such as batch number, date of manufacture, serial number and date of expiry, said A. Suganthi, District Collector.

Presiding over the District level Consumer Protection Council meeting held here on Wednesday, the Collector said it was mandatory for drug dealers to furnish every vital information to the consumers. She said no outdated drugs or medicines beyond the schedule of date of expiry should be sold out for public consumption.

When S. Dhanavelu, general secretary of District Consumer Protection Council, underlined the role of drug dealers in providing right information about the date of manufacture of the drugs, The Collector advised the dealers to abide by the norms on marketing of drugs stipulated by the government.

Another consumer, Mohamad Ali, secretary of the Aranthangi Consumer Council, said not all drug dealers supplied receipts to the villagers. Pointing out that the non-issue of cash receipts would be viewed seriously, Ms.Suganthi ordered the Commercial Taxes Department to take immediate action in this regard.

K. Balakrishnan, District Supply Officer, said surprise raids would be conducted on medical shops and grocery shops in parts of the district. A team of officials led by the Taluk Supply Officer and comprising officials from the Health and Revenue departments would conduct the raids. S. Rajasekaran, MLA, Alankudi; G. S. Ramadasu, DRO; R. Gangadaran and M. Nagendran, both RDOs; S. Ezhilarasan, Joint Director of Health were present.
