CBI files charge sheet

KARAIKAL: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against Vaigai Industries here on Wednesday on the case relating to illegal procurement of subsidised fertilizers and their diversion for industrial use.

Eighteen persons including three from the firm were named as main accused along with fifteen dealers who were also accused in the charge sheet.

Five chemical companies in Karaikal were brought under scanner, after fertilizer grade potassium chloride purchased at a subsidy meant for agricultural use, was seized by the district administration from their premises. Cases were registered under the Essential Commodities Act and the investigation was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

According to an official source, charge sheets have already been filed against Sun Chem and Kumaran Chemicals and the first hearing that was scheduled for Wednesday was adjourned to October5.

As of date, charge sheets are yet to be filed against Jyothi Chlorides and Karaikal Chloride.
