Police pickets posted near places of worship

Safe route: Devotees being screened at the entrance of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the city on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have intensified patrolling and checking of railway stations, bus stands and other key public facilities in view of the Allahabad High Court's judgement, regarding the ownership of the land and structure at the disputed site at Ayodhya, scheduled to be delivered on Thursday afternoon.

Police pickets have been posted at sensitive localities and also in the vicinity of landmark religious places of worship. City Police Commissioner M. R. Ajith Kumar said those trying to create unrest by spreading malicious rumours, sending provocative text messages or putting up inflammatory posters would be arrested. Preventive arrests would be made if necessary. Citizens, organisations and groups have been prohibited from holding public meetings or conducting demonstrations till Saturday. Patrolling of coastal areas and checking of vehicles at night have been intensified.

Anti-sabotage teams and sniffer dogs have been deployed at railway stations and bus stands. The police were checking railway tracks and trains along with Railway Protection Force personnel.
