Chennai: Huawei, one of the largest telecom equipment manufacturers in the world, has committed an investment of about $500 million for establishing a state-of-the-art telecom equipment manufacturing facility near Chennai. According to an official release, Huawei confirmed its proposal on Wednesday, after detailed discussions with Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who is leading a high-level investment promotion delegation to China. Mr. Stalin assured support and cooperation of the State government. Machinery launched The Deputy Chief Minister also launched the first machinery manufactured by Coimbatore-based Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW)'s wholly owned subsidiary, LMW Suzhou Limited, China, at Wujian Economic Development Zone near Shanghai. Chinese officials, industrialists and LMW's Sanjay Jayawardhanavelu participated in the function. The State's investment promotion delegation also visited Shanghai Expo 2010, an international expo in which more than 100 countries are displaying latest and futuristic technologies related to urban living, transportation, automobiles, consumer electronics and environment, the release said. Mr. Stalin is accompanied by K. Deenabandu his Principal Secretary; Rajeev Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries Department; and M. Velmurugan, Vice-Chairman, Guidance Bureau.
