Tusks recovered

Sirsi: Officials of the Forest Department on Wednesday recovered the two missing tusks of an elephant that was buried after it died of electrocution in Kardolli village in Yellapur taluk recently. Three persons, Rongu Savu Patagere, Bagu keriya Bandhe and Lakku Goya Kokare, have been arrested in this connection.

Forest Department sources said that personnel of the department were searching for the missing tusks since last four days. The tusks measured about 85 cm and elephant's age is said to be around 20 years.

The operation was led by Yellapur Deputy Conservator of Forests Karunakar and ACF Goplakrishna Hegde.

The departmental sources said that tusks were placed in a plastic bag and kept in a bamboo bush, half a km from the place where the jumbo was buried.
