State apologises for lapse in college affiliation
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The State Government stunned the Karnataka High Court when it accepted that it had erroneously granted affiliation to several nursing colleges with retrospective effect even though the institutions had sought admission only from 2010-11.
The State made this submission when Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri was hearing a batch of petitions by seven nursing colleges and 291 students challenging the refusal by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to issue hall tickets to them to appear for the nursing examination.
The petitioners claimed they had joined the course in 2009-10, and the RGUHS had refused to issue hall tickets saying the institutions were not affiliated in 2009-10.
When the case came up, the RGUHS said it these colleges had sought for affiliation only from 2010-11.
The Government admitted it had erred in giving affiliation to these institutions from 2009-10.
It apologised to the court for the lapse. Justice Hinchigeri said the students would be allowed to take the examination next year.
