BJP leader Santha Reddy ends fast

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: The indefinite hunger strike launched by the BJP's national committee member K. Santha Reddy has ended on the 5th day on Thursday, with the TTD's Executive Officer I.Y.R. Krishna Rao reportedly assuring a BJP delegation that ‘preference' would be given to those from Rayalaseema zone in the recruitment drive which the TTD had taken up recently to fill the vacant posts in different categories.

Shantha Reddy called off her five-day fast after the party delegation led by former State president C. Ramachandra Reddy, which met the EO, called on her at the SVRR Hospital and explained to her about the ‘assurance' they succeeded in drawing from the EO, vis-a-vis her demand for 80 per cent quota for people of Rayalaseema region in TTD jobs as provided under the Six Point Formula and the 610 G.O.

The EO was also said to have spoken to her over phone and conveyed his assurance. She ended her fast by accepting a glass of fruit juice offered by former Speaker A. Eswara Reddy.

Earlier, the police have in a pre-dawn operation, forcibly whisked away the fasting BJP leader from her hunger strike camp and admitted her into the SVRR hospital.
