Bangalore: The Criminal Investigation Department on Thursday simultaneously raided 24 iron ore export companies in six districts. The operation was carried out in Bangalore, Bellary, Dakshina Kannada, Belgaum, Dharwad, and Udupi districts. The CID is probing the mystery surrounding the disappearance of more than five lakh tonnes of iron ore from Belekeri port some months ago. Documents, CDs, 14 computer hard disks and other material pertaining to iron ore exports were seized, a senior CID official told The Hindu. “A case has been registered at the Ankola police station. Based on ‘search warrants' issued by the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court at Ankola, we conducted, as part of investigation, raids in the known premises of 24 export firms that had so far not produced documents required for investigation,” the official said. According to him, four offices were found locked. They were sealed and decision was taken to search them later. In Bangalore, the raids were conducted on Rajmahal Steels, Greentex Mining Industries Pvt. Ltd. and Kothari Products Ltd. Searches were conducted at the offices of Zeenat Transport Company, Chandru Associates, Eagle Traders and Logistics and Eagle – C in Bellary; Arshad Exports, Shalini Impex Export Company, S.B. Logistics Export Company, Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Minerals, Sri Venkateshwara Transport, Ganesh Minerals, Swastik Steel Ltd., Tungabhadra Mining Pvt. Ltd. and ILC Industries Ltd. in Hospet; V.S.L. Mining Company Pvt. Ltd. and Vesco in Sandur; SSTA Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd. in Belgaum, Dream Logistics Company (India) Pvt. Ltd. at Yellapura; Cauveri Coffee Traders and Deepa Mines and Minerals in Mangalore, A.M. World Mining and Exports in Hubli, and San Exim in Udupi. The officials verified the documents pertaining to the stock and the quantum of ore transported. The raids may continue, he said. Deputy Conservator of Forest, Karwar, R. Gokul seized iron ore worth Rs. 200 crore at Belekeri port in March. Later about five lakh tonnes of iron mysteriously disappeared from the Belekeri port.
