TRADITION'S SPLENDOUR:The emphasis is always on the classic Indian textiles that have evolved over a period of time. Bangalore: It is that time of the year again. Traditional and contemporary textiles, jewellery and varied handloom and handicraft products from across the country will be on display at Vastrabharana, the annual exhibition of the Crafts Council of Karnataka (CCK), for six days from Friday. Tribute This year's exhibition is a tribute to the tribal weaves of the country. A book, Metal Craft of Karnataka, will be released on the occasion. The book has been sponsored by the Infosys Foundation and will be released by Sudha Murty, chairperson of the foundation. Through its exhibitions, the CCK pays homage to Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, its founder, by providing artisans with sustainable livelihood through crafts by giving them a platform. These exhibitions help artisans be in touch with the current trends. Profits from the exhibition will benefit development projects that engage directly with craft communities in the State. The annual exhibition held has been focussing on different regional textiles of the country. The emphasis is always on traditional Indian textiles that have evolved over a period of time. This year, 41 participants from across the country will showcase their handloom and handicraft products, a press release added. The exhibition, to be inaugurated at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath by Sudha Gopalakrishnan from the Infosys Foundation, is on till October 6, between 10.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m.
