Kozhikode: Cartoonist M. Dileef is paying tributes to the Father of the Nation on his birth anniversary in a novel way, with a huge caricature of the Mahatma titled ‘Njangal Gandhijiyodoppam,' (We are with Gandhiji).

Claimed to be the biggest caricature in the world, the 3,333 sq ft art work has been exhibited on the Kozhikode beach on Friday. Mr. Dileef aims to create a new world record for caricature through the venture.

Annal Sports and Leisure Management India, in association with the Indian Caricaturists Organisation (ICO) and the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is organising the programme. The work was started at the Calicut Chamber of Commerce Hall in Ashokapuram on September 27 in the presence of a huge audience. Mr. Dileef spent 10 hours daily for five days to create the caricature. It cost the organisers more than Rs.50,000 for the cloth and paint and an additional Rs.1 lakh for documentation to be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records. The work will be certified by District and Sessions Judge M.P. Ismail, District Collector P.B. Salim, M.K. Raghavan, MP; and A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, before the documents are sent to the Guinness officials.

Mr. Dileef said it was his long-standing ambition to create such a huge caricature.
