Jeppiar College in last four

Alappuzha: Jeppiar College (Chennai) defeated Mar Ivanios College (Thiruvananthapuram) 75-62 and entered the semifinals in the men's section of the 18th Viswappan memorial basketball tournament here on Friday.

Umesh Krishnan (16), Dinesh Babu (16) and Kevin Mathew (12) shone for the Chennai side which overwhelmed Mar Ivanios in all aspects of the game. For the loser, Ashin Xavier top-scored with 20 points.

In the semifinals, Jeppiar will take on KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram) which has been seeded directly into the semifinals. SB College (Changanassery) overcame Marian College (Kuttikannam) 58-38 to move into the semifinals.

In the women's section, Assumption College (Changanassery) defeated Alphonsa College (Pala) 61-45 and entered the semifinals.

The results (quarterfinals): Men: Jeppiar College, Chennai 75 (Umesh Krishnan 16, Dinesh Babu 16,Kevin Mathew 12) bt Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram 75 (Ashin Xavier 20.Rajith M. George11, Bony Mathew 10 ); SB College, Changanassery 58 (Basil Philip 14, Jobin Varghese 11, Roby Thomas 10) bt Marian college, Kuttikannam 38 ( John Mathew 12, Jomon Jose 10).

Women: Assumption College, Changanassery 61 (Jincy Joseph 11, Reshma Rajendran 10) bt Alphonsa College Pala 45 (Sonumol Soman 16, Asha Abraham 10) .

KBA clinic

The Kerala Basketball Association will conduct a clinic for referees at the Mar Ivanios College on October 8. Fr. Philip Vadakkekalam, Chairman of Referees Commission, will conduct the clinic. The KBA has decided to implement the new rules in basketball, which came into force from October 1, during the State senior basketball championship at Thiruvananthapuram in November.
