Umbrellas for 30,000
NEW DELHI: One does not know whether the ponchos (disposal raincoats) would be distributed among the spectators during the opening ceremony as had been planned when Delhi was experiencing torrential rains.
The rains have stopped now and the ponchos would be a waste unless the rains return to trouble the Organising Committee of the CWG.
The three lakh ponchos at Rs 17.53 per poncho would have cost Rs 52.59 lakh. Now, the OC is arranging 30,000 umbrellas for VIPs and a few other categories just in case the rains come back to disrupt the opening. The Nehru Stadium has a capacity of 60,000.
The umbrellas are going to be supplied courtesy the sponsors.
No need to go through the long-winding clearance process to get them sanctioned. — Special Correspondent
