False insurance claim lands man in jail

TIRUCHI: A Crime Branch CID team on Friday arrested S. Sundararaj, a resident of BHEL Kailasapuram township, for reportedly making a fraudulent claim for accident compensation from United India Insurance Company.

Rs. 2-lakh claim

According to a Crime Branch-CID release, Sundararaj had made the false claim for Rs.2 lakh from the insurance company stating that he was grievously injured after being hit by a motorcycle bearing a particular number while riding a two-wheeler in October 1999 near the shopping complex in the township.

The insurance company which got suspicious reported the matter to the Crime Branch-CID.

The investigation team learnt that Sundararaj had got a complaint registered with the Boiler Plant police mentioning the same details six months after he had sought compensation from the insurance company.

Reckless driving

The Crime Branch-CID team also established that Sundararaj had actually sustained injuries after a fall from the two-wheeler he rode recklessly due to brake failure.

Before preferring the police complaint, Sundararaj was treated for injuries at the Boiler Plant hospital, the Crime Branch-CID statement said. The arrest was effected on the directions of the CB-CID ADGP Archana Ramasundaram.

Judicial custody

Sundararaj was ordered to be remanded in judicial custody in the court of Sixth Judicial Magistrate.
