Gram sabha meetings held in 588 panchayats

KRISHNAGIRI/DHARMAPURI: Gram sabha meetings were held in 337 village panchayats in Krishnagiri and 251 panchayats in Dharmapuri districts on Sunday.

Krishnagiri Collector V. Arun Roy monitored the proceedings of the meeting at Marikampatti village in Kengaleri Panchayat near Krishnagiri.

Mr. Roy urged the villagers to send their children to libraries established under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam.

He also asked the villagers to take part in the Library Week contests to be conducted during the second week of December.

Villagers of Kavalam and Marikkampatti complained that the drinking water supplied from the river was contaminated.

The Collector instructed the Assistant Director (Panchayats) to conduct a survey in the area and dug up a bore well for the drinking water supply.

He also assured the villagers that he will take up the issue with the National Highways authorities for constructing the drainage channels.

Villagers of Marikkampatti complained that they find it difficult to use the library since it was located in an isolated place on the outskirts of the village.

R. Vijaya, Assistant Director (Panchayats), A. Noor Mohamed, Revenue Divisional Officer, Krishnagiri Tahsildhar Rajagopal and other officials participated in the meeting.

Dharmapuri

In Dharmapuri, gram sabha meetings were held in all the 251 panchayats.

Collector R. Anandakumar monitored the proceedings of the meeting held at Hogenakkal, which comes under the Koothapadi Panchayat. Kavitha Sampath, President, R. Ravichandran, Project Officer, DRDA, Pennagaram Tahsildhar Ravindran participated.
