Doubts over Chief Minister's signature

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday expressed doubts over the genuineness of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's signature affixed on the Government Order directing the denotification of about 7.5 acres of land acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority.

Notwithstanding Mr. Yeddyurappa's assertion that he had indeed affixed his signature on the denotification order, Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons that he had never heard of a person holding an office as high as the Chief Minister's having two signatures. “How can a Chief Minister have two signatures? His signature obtained after he takes oath office is the official signature,” Mr. Kumaraswamy said.

On Friday, Mr. Kumaraswamy expressed suspicion that the Chief Minister's signature had been forged as the denotification order did not bear his trademark signature, but merely had his initials.

Though Mr. Yeddyurappa clarified that he had signed the order, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that an inquiry should be held to ascertain the genuineness of the Chief Minister's signature. “There should be forensic examination of the signature,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that he was ready for any inquiry into the allegations of denotification of land levelled against him by BJP MP D.B. Chandre Gowda. “Though the BJP has accused me of denotifying land, I have not done anything illegal,” he said.
