NELLORE: On the eve of 141st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prisoner's Welfare Day was celebrated at Nellore Central Prison in the city on Saturday. Collector K. Ramgopal, First Additional District Judge S. Jagannatham and Superintendent of Police E. Damodar, Jail Superintendent P.G.V. Prasada Rao and other officials attended the celebrations. They inaugurated the computer training centre at district on the occasion. Speaking at the programme, the Collector assured them priority for prisoner's family members in allotting government schemes and loans in the district. He asked the inmates to behave with good discipline and lead dignified life after the release. Mr. Jagannatham, who presided the programme said the aim of the government is to bring a change in the minds of prisoners in the ‘correctional homes'. Later, sweets were distributed to the prisoners. Noted industrialist Vemireddy Prabhakara Reddy donated four computers, D. Prakasham gave five colour TVs and S.B.T.Chand Basha donated a fogging machine to the Central jail, said the jail superintendent. Deputy Jail Superintendents M.Farooq Ali Khan and N.Murali Babu and others attended the programme.
