Judge visits Gulberg Society
Manas Dasgupta
AHMEDABAD: B. U. Joshi, judge of the Special Court hearing the Gulberg Society massacre case of the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat, visited the site on Saturday for a spot survey.
The media, however, were barred from covering the event.
Mr. Joshi and his entourage arrived at the Gulberg Society around 10 a.m. and moved round the locality for about two hours. Photographers and electronic media were not allowed to take any picture.
At least 69 people, including the former Congress member of the Lok Sabha, Ehsan Jaffrey, were killed in the massacre in the Chamanpura locality of old Ahmedabad city on February 28, 2002.
The trial has already begun in Mr. Joshi's court, and the judge announced in the court about 10 days ago that he would visit the spot on Gandhi Jayanthi Day before further proceeding with the trial.
