Talks into cellphone, falls to death

BANGALORE: A 37-year-old man who was distracted by talking into his cellphone, slipped and fell from his second floor apartment in Manyata Layout 2nd Cross on Friday night. He died in hospital on Saturday morning.

The Yelahanka New Town police said the victim, Nagaraj, was working for a company in Doddaballapur.

Couple held for murder

The Vijayanagar police arrested Srinivas (33) and his wife Vijayalakshmi (27) for allegedly murdering Muthukumaran (40) in Kamakshipalya on September 1. The victim's body was found abandoned in a vacant plot in S.V.G Nagar in Moodalapalya. The police identified him as a labourer working near Kempegowda bus terminus.

Investigations revealed that Srinivas had sought his services when he moved house to Hoysalanagar on the night of August 31.

Early next day, Muthukumaran tried to molest Vijayalakshmi, who told her husband. The two then allegedly strangulated him and dumped his body.

Policeman dies

A Sub-Inspector from Rajarajeshwarinagar Police Station died of heart attack early on Saturday.

The police said Siddalingamurthy (56) complained of chest pain at his house in Brindavan Nagar and was taken to a hospital where he died.

Burglary arrests

The Vijayanagar police arrested five men allegedly involved in the burglary of a house in R.P.C. Layout. They are Naveen Kumar (19), Ramu (23), Karthik (20), Jagadish (22) and Manoj Kumar (21).

The police have recovered Rs. 2.42 lakh in cash, 353 gm of gold, a digital camera, a handy cam and a set of duplicate keys.

Held for assault

The Kumaraswamy Layout police have arrested Fiyaz (22) for allegedly assaulting Arvind Lagi Shetty, a native of Uttar Pradesh, in Sarakki on July 12. He was also involved in trashing a club near Kadarenahalli on August 23, the police said.
