NEW DELHI: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on Sunday separately announced cash rewards for Indian medal winners in the Commonwealth Games.

Mr. Deora, who is also the patron of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), announced Rs.10 lakh for winners of gold medals, Rs.7.5 lakh for silver medallists and Rs.5 lakh for bronze medal winners. The decision was taken by the PSPB at a meeting on Sunday.

Mr. Sharma also announced Rs.7.5 lakh for a gold medallist, Rs.5 lakh for a silver medallist and Rs.3.5 lakh for a bronze medal winner. The rewards were being announced for acknowledging the good work done by the participants and to encourage budding youngsters, he added.
