Cultural programmes, film festival to mark Shimoga Dasara

SHIMOGA: Dasara will be celebrated here under the aegis of the Shimoga City Municipal Council (CMC) from October 8 to 17.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, president of the city municipal council K.S. Gangadharappa said several programmes would be organised by the CMC to mark the 10-day festival. Committees had been formed to celebrate the festival in a grand manner.

Mr. Gangadharappa said a film festival in association with Belli Mandala and “Chitra-Sante” in association with the Lalitkala Academy would be organised.

He said film actors, directors, theatre exponents, and musicians would participate in the cultural programmes. Achievers in various fields would be felicitated. The film festival would be inaugurated on Friday. It would conclude on October 14. Actor Bhavana would inaugurate the film festival. Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and singer Sangeeta Katti Kulkarni would be the chief guests.

The films to be screened are: Kanooru Heggadati at HPC Talkies on October 8, Santa Shishunala Sharief (Veerabhadra Talkies) on October 9, Kanneshwara Rama (Mallikarjuna Talkies) on October 10, Aaghata (Laxmi Talkies) on October 11, Veera Madakari (Modern Talkies) on October 12, Prathama Ushakirana (Vinayaka Talkies) on October 13 and Neela (Manjunatha Talkies) on October 14.

Mahila Dasara (women's Dasara) would be organised on October 8 and 9 at Ambedkar Bhavan. Ms. Bhavana would inaugurate it. Health expert Hema Mohan would participate in the programme. Ms. Sangeeta Katti Kulkarni would perform in the “Raaga Sanje” programme, he said.

Yuva Dasara

Mr. Gangadharappa said that Yuva Dasara would be held on October 10. Director Yogaraj Bhat, and actors Diganth and Prem would participate in it. “Snake” Kiran, photographer Shimoga Nandan and music teacher Arun would be honoured on the occasion.

This would be followed by a comedy show by actor Doddanna and team.

He said that an exhibition of photographs and paintings would be organised at Shivappa Nayaka Palace on October 12. “Cultural ambassador” Mohan Alva of Moodbidri would inaugurate the exhibition.

Actor Jaggesh would be the chief guest. This would be followed by a light music programme, Bendre Geeta Namana, by Deepak Sagar and team and artistes of Ninada.

Members of Madhava Nele would present a dance programme on October 13 at Shivanna Nayak Palace. This would be followed by “Sri Krishna Leele,” a dance drama, by artistes of Saha Chetana Natyalaya and “Pancha Veena Vaadana” by Parivadhini troupe.

K.S. Eshwarappa, MLA, would inaugurate Dasara Gaana Vaibhava on October 14 at Nehru Stadium at 6 p.m. There would be a saxophone recital by Kumaraswamy of Kanchikamakoti Peetham, followed by a light music programme by Vinay Kuma and group of Bangalore.

Singer Rajesh Krishnan and his team would perform at Nehru Stadium on October 15 at 6 pm., Mr. Gangadharappa said.

Nagaraj Murthy and team of Bangalore would present a folk programme on October 16. “Chitra Sante” would be inaugurated at Mahatma Gandhi Park on the same day. The Dasara festivities would end with a procession on October 17.

Procession

The procession would start from Shivappa Nayak Palace at 3 p.m. and end at Nehru Stadium for “Banni puja”, he said.

Vice-president of the CMC B. Satyanarayan, Chairman of the Standing Committee Mohan Reddy, councillors Kashi Vishawanath and Asha Malleshappa and Commissioner P. Jayanna were present.
