284 cases settled at Lok Adalat in Berhampur

A district-level Lok Adalat will also be held on the premises of the Berhampur court today

The State level Lok Adalat is in progress at the district judge court premises in Berhampur on Saturday.—

BERHAMPUR: Two hundred and eighty four cases were settled at the State-level Lok Adalat held on the Berhampur court premises on Saturday.

Judges of the Orissa High Court, Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice Chittaranjan Dash attended this Lok Adalat to monitor the process. District Judge for Ganjam and Gajapati Manoj Kumar Panda was also present. Cases were settled in five cells opened up for the purpose.

Most of the cases which were settling were related to motor vehicle accident related insurance claims. Compensations worth Rs. 1,68, 34,850 were ordered to be paid to the to the persons awaiting the insurance claims.

Additional District Judge (ADJ) Berhampur, Suvendu Mohanty, judge of the Berhampur family court S. K. Mohapatra, Paralakhemundi ADJ Durga Shankar Mishra, Judge of the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) in the city B.P.Routray and Chatrapur ADJ A.K.Mohanty conducted the proceedings at the five cells of the Lok Adalat.

Death claims

Out of the cases which were decided, 54 were related to death claims and others were related to claims related to injury during accidents.

The cases were related to public sector general insurance companies and private insurance companies as well.

Most of the clients who had their cases settled in the Lok Adalat were extremely happy for the speedy disposal of their insurance claims.

On Sunday a district-level Lok Adalat would also be held on the premises of the Berhampur court.
