Kozhikode
Kozhikode: District Collector P.B. Salim has invited applications from individuals or firms interested in completely removing the plastic waste accumulated at an industrial centre near the Shanthi Nagar colony (Bangladesh colony) at West Hill. Applications can be submitted to the Corporation Secretary or the District Collector before 3 p.m. on October 18. The three-member governing committee of the city council is scouting for fresh applicants as Go Green, a voluntary agency, and Kunhi Koya, a contractor, who had been earlier entrusted with the task of removing plastic waste had failed to remove it. Both the parties had been given permission to collect the plastic waste from the site in the wake of complaints from residents of the colony. The residents also submitted a complaint on July 7. The agreement was to remove the waste materials in two phases of eight tonnes and 12 tonnes on a weekly basis. Time frame A three-month time frame had been allotted to them for completely removing them. However, they had not only failed to execute the task but only collected what they wanted for recycling purpose.
