TIRUCHI: With cement prices registering a sharp rise in the open market, sale of cement bags at concessional rates through the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation has been revived in Tiruchi district. TNCSC sources said the scheme had been suspended for some time following the fall in price of cement in the open market. However, with the spurt in the price again there has been public demand for the cement sold through the TNCSC. The cement bags are being sold through the TNCSC at six places in the district, said Collector Mahesan Kasirajan. In a press release, Mr.Kasirajan pointed out that the government was implementing a scheme to provide up to 400 bags of cement for people constructing houses of up to 1000 square feet. The 50 kg cement bags were sold at Rs.200 each. Those who wish to avail themselves of the scheme can apply with a photo copy of their ration cards and the demand draft towards the cost of the cement bags and receive their quota in eight instalments. Besides, upto 50 cement bags would also be available for those repairing their houses. The cement bags were available for sale at the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation godowns at Subramaniapuram (telephone: 2423620), Thiruvanaikovil (2608325 - located at Adavathur), Irungalur (2909403), Musiri (04326-260319), Thuraiyur (04327-256098) and Manapparai (04332-292911) . Further information can also be had from the senior regional manager of the TNCSC at 9443141723, added the press release.
