JAIPUR: Rajasthan Petroleum Minister Ramlal Jat has announced the presence of 3.6 billion barrel (480 million tonne) of crude oil in the Barmer-Sanchore basin of the State. Cairn Energy, which discovered oil and natural gas in 25 blocks of the region, has also found 3,000-6,000 million cubic metre natural gas deposits in the region, he said. Mr. Jat said the State has earned an income of Rs.517.77 crore as revenue from oil and natural gas till September. Since the commencement of production of high quality gas from the Shahgarh area of Jaisalmer district in July this year, the State has been earning additional revenue from Rs.20-30 lakh a month, he revealed. The Minister said the company has been issued licences for carrying out investigations in 21 blocks and mining lease in 10 blocks. Investigations and mining of crude oil, natural gas and coal bed methane would be carried out in these areas. The company is doing the monitoring of the crude oil and natural gas on a regular basis, Mr. Jat said. Among the 25 oil fields discovered by Cairn Energy in the Barmer-Sanchore basin include Mangala, Bhagyam, Shakti, Aishwarya, Saraswati and Rajeshwari.
